I wrote a simple question to ESPN when the Mariotti thing came up. I got their usual “you’re too inconsequential for us to pay attention to” response (i.e., we get so many emails ....). I figured that was the end of that and went back to having a life. Today, completely out of the blue, I got this. I’ll post any further communications if they come in.

After last night’s tragic NCAA championship, I was thinking - you know what would make this even more pitiful? The insight of Jay Mariotti. So I mentally wrote a column in the style of Jay, talking about how sexy the Butler coach looked in his suit and how clever I could be by throwing in a Snooki reference.

So it’s come to this: When you take away an obvious blowhard like Jay, it just isn’t as fun to mock his multiple shortcomings without constant articles proclaiming his genius.

Come back, Jay!
