Sports Illustrated chimes in. The Cubs own 3 of them with Soriano, Bradley and, now, Silva. SI does note that they think Bradley might do okay in Seattle. The White Sox inherited one bad contract with Pierre, but SI notes that due to the fact that the Sox got so much cash, his current cost is about what he’s actually worth, so they don’t list the Sox, just the Dodgers.

Bradley is one of the most prominent lumps of coal out there, if only because the Cubs had all but publicly promised to get rid of him by any means necessary before the 2010 season (not exactly the best way to leverage other teams).

It was good to get rid of Bradley but Silva may be just as bad if not worse than Bradley. As far as I know Silva has had no behavior problems so that is one plus in his favor. That is a lot of money for a pitcher who probably won’t even be in the starting rotation.

I sign every autograph I can for kids because I remember myself at that age. I think it’s ridiculous that some guys won’t sign for a kid.

Silva is a game killer. Like I said here;

Quite honestly, I see Silva sitting on the bench and the Cubs doing all in their power to keep him off the mound. I know that there are articles claiming he will compete for the 5th starter spot. Whatever those writers have been partaking in it needs to be shared with the class. Because, when all is said and done, Carlos Silva is a very bad pitcher.

Not double digit ERA bad, just consistently bad enough to blow every game he is in. The Sox found out last year how demoralizing it is to have a team know that every 5th day they got a ā€œLā€ before the first pitch was thrown.

If they can’t move him they need to stick him in the pen and pray for rain every day he is available.

Go easy on Silva.

Every ball club needs a player that makes the manager feel skinny.

I thought that’s what Zambrano was for.

Ozzie had one of those kind of pitchers in Bartolo Colon last season and Jenks isn’t too skinny himself.

No, according to Zambrano, he is the beacon of physical fitness. When he takes off his shirt, Lou blushes.
