The Bears web site lists their record as 0-0 and notes that the next game is against Detroit. So, not only do they have revisionist history, they have a revisionist future as well. Enjoy the front page and I hope you all learn to like Tuna Tossing as much as I will.

Great post, Bill. I think you’re dead on with the yes men comment and the departure of Rivera statement. Thanks.

Glad you liked it. I’ve gotten a couple of emails reminding me that Lovie has had success throughout his career. When I mention that, until the Bears, he’s never been a head coach or had control of a staff they stop writing. Hopefully, next year, some team is desperate for a Cover-2 defense and we can move on.

So let’s see...what have we learned about the 2010 Chicago Bears?

Jay Cutler: Gonna be eating more grass than a whole herd of diary cows. Not to mention he hasn’t yet conquered color blindness as he still can’t distinguish the color of his receiver’s jersies from those of the opponents covering them.

The O-Line: Should be sponsered by Ex-Lax because they let defenders run through them like crap through a goose.

The Defense: Those D-backs cover receivers like deer caught in headlights on a dark Wisconsin highway. Injuries to Urlacher & Briggs ain’t helping either.

Special Teams: Whatever disease is affecting the rest of the team has now apparently infected what was the only good thing the Bears had until now.

Coaching: Does Martz still think this team is more talented than the St. Louis Rams teams he coached? Will Mike Tice’s liver disintergrate from excessive drinking after watching the offensive line he coaches all season? Will Rod Marinelli finally tell Lovie Smith to shove Cover-2 up his ass? Will Lovie Smith even survive the season as head coach?

The only bright spots seem to be:

Julius Peppers who is still a deadly pass rusher.

Chester Taylor who can now show just how good he is now that he doesn’t have to play in Adrian Peterson’s shadow, but unfotunately, he’s stuck playing behind the Bears’ O-Line which means he’s basically on his own.

And Dan LeFevour looks like he can actually play quarterback.

From what I see right now, the Bears’ record will contain the numbers 10 & 6, but it’ll be 6 wins and 10 losses...Detroit is going to end up with a better record at this point.

From A. Mexan, an Iraqi who owns a web site that streams JTJ, we get this:

والدببة ليست جيدة.

Roughly translated, thanks to Google;

The Bears are no good.

“ The Cardinals are what we thought they were. They’re what we thought they were. We played them tonight in preseason — who the hell takes a fourth quarter in the third game of the preseason like it’s bullshit? Bullshit! We played them in the fourth quarter of the third game — every scrub played the last quarter — the Cardinals are who we thought they were! That’s why we took the damn field. Now if you want to crown them, then crown their ass! But they are who we thought they were! And we let ‘em off the hook!

- A thought flashed in the mind of a stoic Lovie Smith as Dan LeFevour nearly pulled off (well not really...) a 4th quarter upset.

Nice post Bill, thanks for the mention.  I don’t think many people went with the race - 20,000 vs. 60,000 at the Bears game if I remember right.  And while the 20,000 people saw something exciting, the 60,000 people saw...well

Hey, how bout that Dan LeFevour?

Spent the day at Shedd with the family.

Nary a Bears jersey in sight.

For that matter, nary a Cubs jersey either.

Quite a few Blackhawk t-shirts and hats however.

I saw a little kid yesterday, maybe 10 or 11, wearing his hair like Joakim Noah. He even had a Noah jersey and glassy eyes.

I thought the Bears looked pretty good.  They looked bad running, looked bad passing, looked bad stopping the run, looked bad stopping the pass, defending receivers and rushing the passer.  They looked bad on special teams, missing 2 makeable field goals.  But other than that they looked pretty good.

It looks like one of those years where everyone knows the coach is a lame duck and the bottom drops out, like Wanny’s last year or Jauron’s last year, both of which were 4-12 or 5-11 or something.  On offense, it doesn’t look like the players are on the same page at all, especially the receivers.  On defense, they just look a step slow.  I didn’t see guys out of position so much as I saw guys in position to make plays and then those guys just missed on the plays they had to make.  The Tampa-2 can work and work well, but it requires a fast and athletic team.  The Bears were a fast and athletic team in 2005-2006.  In 2010, they are relying on the same players they relied on in 2005-2006.  Guess what?  Those same players aren’t so fast or athletic anymore and consequently, the defense sucks ass.  It’s the result of year after year of failed draft picks and player development.

Cutler looks like fucking shit.  I don’t care how much pressure he was under.  When defenders crowded or clutched Derek Anderson, he would complete a pass down the field.  When defenders crowded or clutched Jay Cutler, he would crumple like paper.  His 2 INTs were absolute garbage.  A QB who is only good when he gets great protection is not a good QB, or Rex Grossman would be a good QB.  I gave Cutler a pass last year for having to play with a shitty O-Line and play in Ron Turner’s shitty offense, but he’s not off the hook this year.
