Since they are starting the season so late, maybe they will call off the playoffs. If baseball did like basketball ,the playoffs would start in early September and end in November.

It will be a truncated season and a normal playoff schedule.

Nick, you’re right about the common-sense factor.  But if I had a guaranteed contract for $10 million for a season, I would sure as hell expect to receive the entire $10 million irrespective of the games I played.  My legal argument would be the owners are the ones who shortened the season by their actions so the owners take the risk and therefore must pay.  In addition, if a player were to be injured and only play 66 of 82 games in a full season, he would receive the entire 88 game payment.  I’m pretty sure there won’t be many (none) sports reporters who will check on this information.

You’ve got a point. If it says $10 million per season, then contractually it’s good despite common sense saying you should make 66/82 of it. It would be interesting to see actual contract language. And you’re right - I doubt any reporters will actually investigate this further.

If I were a player signed to the air Jordan brand, I would be contacting Nike to modify my contract to a new Nike product line.
