A great weekend for baseball with the Cards and the Tigers on the tickets.

I was not even aware that the Cnb$ were playing the Cardinals this weekend.

Thanks for the heads up.

Great post Bill!! Great to have both Chicago teams winning. That is awesome stat about the 57 pitches just to Dunn and Beckham. Winning despite 15 strikeouts shows this is a good team and Peavy is pitching far better than anyone expected.

Byrd .083 and Soto .143 were the only Cubs starters hitting less than .281 yesterday. Epstein and Hoyer had to be happy to see their replacements for Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Pena drive in 7 of the 9 runs yesterday. Anthony Rizzo may not be called up the way LaHair is hitting right now. Samardzija didn’t pitch his best game, but still took the win, while four pitchers out of the bullpen gave up a total of 2 hits in 4 innings, while Wood and Marmol lowered their ERA’s again.

I sign every autograph I can for kids because I remember myself at that age. I think it’s ridiculous that some guys won’t sign for a kid.

I know it’s early and both teams have major holes, but I’m liking my post season bet more and more.

I’m liking it too. Sox winning despite 15 strikeouts and when Cubs starter didn’t have his best stuff is a good sign.

Ventura says he’s not worried about Dunn, Beckham, Rios and Morel all hitting under .200

I don’t care what anyone says, you can’t have 4 guys in the lineup hitting under .200 and expect to keep winning.

And I don’t care that Dunn and Beckham strung out the pitch counts, that is absolutely meaningless. They still struck out a total of 7 times yesterday.

Sure it’s only 6 games. That’s why I give them until June 1st to get their averages up. Then I’m going to start expecting to see them sitting on the bench and not playing.

I can’t see Ventura letting the batters hitting under the Mendoza line play all summer, unless KW and Reinsdorf make him. I am like Tom in that I won’t worry too much till June, then these guys need to be on the bench if they don’t bring those averages up.

Jeff Samardzija 2-0 and Matt Garza 1-0 are the only Cubs starters with wins after the first nine games. Chris Volstad allowed only 3 earned runs in 6 innings. Paul Maholm starts tomorrow with a 0-1 record and 13.50 ERA. Maholm will take his 53-74 lifetime record with him to the mound tomorrow.

Gavin Floyd 1-1, 3.09 ERA cut his ERA in half pitching 6 scoreless innings in the win over the Tigers today. Gordon Beckham was the only starter to not have a hit in today’s game. Adam Dunn has struck out 9 times in the last 4 games. If he kept that pace up all season he would have 360 strikeouts for the season.

Main thing is the Sox put another win on the board. Only Dodgers, Nationals and Rangers have a better winning percentage than the Sox. Only the Nationals with a 5 game winning streak, have a longer winning streak than the 4 consecutive wins of the White Sox and Dodgers.
