The only good thing Carrie Muskrat could write about the Cubs is that Carlos Marmol is still on the disabled list. Starters might go on strike when Marmol returns, demanding that he be traded.

Adam Dunn is in a six-way tie for second in majors with 14 home runs. Dunn is 5th in the majors in RBI with 33. He hit his 5th home run on this date in 2011. Dunn had zero homers in 2011, but has hit 3 this year in 49 at bats.

Jake Peavy is 3rd in the AL in ERA with a 2.39 mark, while Chris Sale is 5th with an ERA of 2.50.

The White Sox have a team ERA of 3.79. What is interesting is that they have gone from being ranked 28th by Sports Illustrated to 14th. The Cubs, in the same magazine, have dropped from 20th to 22nd. Even SI didn’t think they were going to be this bad. I expect them to drop more as the season continues.

When you look back at the bad signings and trades the Cubs made during the winter, their horrendous start is no surprise. They were saving a lot of money by signing bad players, but it is catching up with them. I have to admit Maholm has been a surprise, but Volstad deserved being sent to Iowa.
