The Cubs are so predictable. I left work with them trailing 2-1. I got home in the middle of the 8th and, lo and behold, they were ahead 3-2 after LaHair’s 2 run HR. My immediate thought was, “I’m sure the bullpen will find a way to screw this up.” I go outside for a smoke. When I got back in, sure enough, it’s 3 all. I’m not following this game closely. I’m just taking a look at the score now and then, and when I look back it’s still tied at 3 in the middle of then 10th. I go back to doing other things. A few minutes later I though, “Let’s see if they’ve lost yet.” Sure enough, game’s over. I go and read the box score and find out that Coleman had thrown 3 pitches and the last one, of course, left the ballpark.
It’s hard to blame Coleman or the other young guys in the Cubs’ pen. Forget trial by fire, these kids are getting trial by volcano. They have no margin for error at all. Add in the train wreck that is Marmol and there’s trouble after 7 unless the team actually has a lead of more than two runs.
Humber + 1 for Dempster I could support as long as the Cubs don’t insist on throwing in Soriano as part of the deal....
White Sox are desperate for a third good starter. Danks, Floyd and Humber haven’t done the job. Dempster would be sad to leave Marmol behind, but he would get over it soon as the White Sox offense starts scoring more runs, than Dempster gives up in a game, turning Dempster into a third dependable starter.
It is amazing the White Sox are 7 games over .500, with only two starters having a good season.

Speaking of Marmol, the Cubs should make him a starter. That way the Cubs would have 8 more innings to catch up after he gives up his 7 runs.

That is assuming he doesn’t give up seven more runs in the second inning. No way the Cubs could make up 14 runs with that offense.
Many a Cubs starter has aged prematurely, when they see Marmol coming in from the bullpen, knowing their win may turn into a loss after he leaves the mound.
