Axelrod must have high command of the breaking ball to survive in the majors.

Axlerod calls it a cut-fastball.

It only really matters what Cooper calls it.

Might as well release that poor bastard Zack Stewart.

Getting thrashed by the Cnb$ is a career ender.

Axelrod has pitched only 26 major league innings and has posted 25 strikeouts and walked 12. He has given up 3 home runs in 7 2/3 innings this season. His lifetime record is 1-1 with a 3.08 ERA.

This season at Charlotte Axelrod is 5-4 with a 3.18 ERA. He has given up 6 home runs in 68 innings with Charlotte in 2012.

I think he is an upgrade over Stewart, but won’t know for sure until he gets a few starts.

Still am wondering why the Sox need six starters. I thought those days are over, unless they are concerned about the arms of Peavy and Sale. The only good thing about having six starters is that Humber and Floyd won’t be pitching as often. Axlerod may be getting some starts in view of replacing Humber and sending Humber to the bullpen. Looks like Danks is out of the picture till early August.

KW had decided that a 6 man rotation and the inevitable return of Juan Pierre will seal the deal for a division title.

Wonder if Ventura had a vote on this 6 man rotation thing. Sox could use Pierre to protect Dunn by batting behind him and he could protect Konerko by batting before him. No way they could pitch around Dunn and Konerko with that combination.

MINO is the White Sox manager.

Of course his opinion does not count.

I give Orlando Hudson credit for admitting the loss was his fault. Peavy gives up one earned run in nine innings and takes the loss. That is not saying much for the White Sox offense.

Who would have thought it would be June 19th before a No.5 starter for the Cubs would win a game? Wood has pitched well in his last four starts. He had allowed one earned run in 7 innings against the Giants, in one of those four starts, but the Giants shut out the Cubs 2-0 in that game. Wood has been a huge upgrade over Chris Volstad and now wish Wood had been the No.5 starter all season.

Can’t believe the Padres would brag about minor leaguers going 0-3. Makes me wonder what they will say if one of their players REALLY has a good game.

Peavy’s three losses this season have been by two 1-0 scores and a 2-1 score. Peavy has allowed 3 earned runs in 25 innings in his three losses.

Randy Wells will be well rested after only pitching 2 innings since June 8 when he takes the mound against Gavin Floyd tonight. Sox hitters will have to be patient with Wells, since he has 16 walks and only 11 strikeouts this season, so should be able to work a walk, if they use some plate discipline.

Floyd is 11th on the Sox in ERA, but Danks and Humber are 12th and 15th respectively, with Humber having the highest ERA on the Sox at 6.01. Starting with his May 16th start against the Angels, Floyd has allowed 7, 9, 5, 5, 4 and 5 runs in his last six starts. He has allowed 35 runs and 49 hits in his last 30 innings. Floyd has allowed 15 home runs, which is 3rd most in the AL this season.

Sox are 6-11 for the month of June and Sale with 2 wins and Quintana and Humber, with one win each have the only other wins by Sox starters in June. Sox were 18-11 in May.

Sox won 14 of 15 from May 17- June 1. Since then they have lost 11 of their last 16 games.

Am I missing something? Why have the Sox returned to a 6 man rotation? Why start Sale and Peavy every sixth day, when the other starters have ERA’s between 5.63 and 6.01? See Stewart is slated to start against Minnesota on the 25th of this month. The Sox need a win in the worst way tonight, since Humber is starting against Greinke this weekend. You never know with baseball though, Humber might even pitch another perfect game.

The Sox are no longer using a six man rotation, with the departure of Zach Stewart for the minors. That means that instead of Humber starting against Greinke on Friday, it will be Chris Sale getting the start. Jake Peavy is replacing Stewart in the rotation for Monday’s start against Francisco Liriano 1-7. The changes set up the Sox to have a chance to win instead of starting Humber and Zach Stewart in those games.
