The whole thing just sucks.  “Nuking them” sounds great when it’s nuking Joe Paterno’s statue, his legacy, or the other leaders who covered for a pedophile but you know who will lose?  Current Penn State students and student athletes, who had absolutely nothing to do with the cover-up.  I think closing the school’s athletic department for a year or even 2 is warranted, but those kids are still the ones who lose.

Roman raises a good point about how this affects the current students who had nothing to do with the scandal. A one year death sentence won’t hurt Sandusky or Paterno, but it would hurt players who are entering their senior year. Hopefully the NCAA will consider them when making their decision.

Any penalty has to consider the students. Most insiders are saying that they will be allowed to transfer scholarships and so forth so they can continue to play football and stay in school.

If I were king: Free transfers for any student athletes, continue scholarships for other sports (out of Penn State’s pocket). There’s no reason to punish innocent students in other sports who are collateral damage for any penalty.

The football program shuts down for 5 years, minimum. The penalty needs to punish the team, the department and the university.

What’s really disturbing is the reaction of Penn State students quoted in the article.

It just reinforces my belief that they should just turn Happy Valley into one big bomb crater..
