Sun Times Op Ed piece wants the Olympics in Chicago. Why? Because it’s pretty.
Tourists stayed away in droves during the Olympics, not just around London, but the United Kingdom as a whole, apparently fearing the prices would be high, the crowds heavy.
Those who did visit for the Olympics spent less at restaurants and stores than typical tourists, London business owners groused.
Meanwhile, in Chicago, sighs of relief could already be heard around town about our city and its failed Olympic dream.
The first sigh went something like this:
Thank God, Chicago lost its bid for the summer Olympics for 2016.
Quickly followed by another:
Chicago should not even think about trying for the games again.
We’re wondering if those observers saw the same Olympics we did.
Did they see the manic, ecstatic crowds?
If I want to hear people squeal I’ll just show up naked in a girl’s locker-room. It’ll save me money, even after I make bail.
