What’s your view on bandwagon fans? (This could apply to Cubs/Bears/Sox as well, obviously there’s not much of a Hawks bandwagon these days). Are you guilty of deserting the Bulls? What brought you back? Can this team take the Pistons? Will they win in 6? 5? Sweep?!
Nope. I have liked this team more and more each year. I like Skiles and I like the direction the team has taken. But, I always leave one seat open near me for any latecomers.
I’ve been a Bulls fan since I was a kid and put up with some bad teams (post Theus/Pre and Post Jordan), so I am enjoying the Bulls success. Bandwagon fans are annoying but they are not the worst element of fan: Rich/Rich Celeb bandwagon fans, they by far are the worse. Jim Belushi comes to mind and a hoarde of North Shore fans that suddenly migrate into the city for playoff games, only to ask directions ("Where’s Wrigley Field, can I park here for free?, I haven’t been on the Southside since 1983 etc), show little or no knowledge of the game (When did they get Jermaine Dye? Thabo who?)
Can anybody else here remember the Artis Gilmore years? How about Nick Boerwinkle(sp). They used to have one good player and a lot of stiffs in those days. Been through it all.
Come on Slim help me out with these past teams.
BTW, Matt, Did you mean the season ending loss to the Nets this year or the Heat last year?
I must admit. Here in Tampa (the land basketball forgot) there is no NBA news. I deserted. So I am jumping on the bandwagon and watching the Bulls again. Playoff exposure is a great way to bring fans back. I never watched much until Michael. He changed the game for a lot of people and made it exciting. I can’t afford to spend a full Bulls season knowing it’ll end like every Cubs season. I waste too much time doing that every summer. It’s good to see them back. Winning creates intrest. And revenue. Bill Wirtz, are you listening?
I don’t watch many Bulls games myself but I am glad that I caught at least the second half of last night’s game. They completely outplayed the Heat. And it is nice to see that we have more posts for the Bulls than Blackhawks. Better to talk about a team with promise than uhh… well whatever.

Never mind, I think you meant the Nets.
Yeah, Gilmore, Boerwinkle, Theus, Clifford Ray, etc.
I’ve been a fan since their first season. This was two years after the Chicago Packers/Zephyrs packed up for Baltimore to become the Bullets (now the Wizards).
The team I remember best was the Sloan, Van Leir, Love, and Walker bunch that routinely won 50 games a season under Dick Motta. I used to listen to them on WIND (560 AM). I was at the 75 or 76 playoff game number 5 at the Stadium. The Bulls were up 3-1 against the Golden State Warriors and the joint was jumpin’. Unfortunately, they broke my heart (as well as the rest of the fans) by losing the game and the series. In game seven, they had a good size lead and blew it. The Warriors went on to become NBA Champions.
You can talk about people jumping on a winning team in Chicago, but in reality, it’s not as bad as it may seem. I swear that Atlanta has the highest bandwagon jumper percentage in the country. It’s across the board: the Falcons, Thrashers, Hawks, and, of course, Braves. In the beginning of the Braves 14 year run and a number of World Series appearance, the fans couldn’t jump on the wagon fast enough. Remember 2003 when they couldn’t sell-out the stadium to their own fans. Cubs fans could easily get tickets. I’ve been to a number of Cub games at Turner Field and Fulton County Stadium before it, and the crowd in the beginning and start around 2000 was usually pretty close to 50/50 in terms of the fan split. This also holds true for the rest of the teams.
Whats it like to be that old? I hope to get there some day. To be able to remeber the entire existance of franchises and the likes of Butkus and Ditka and being able to say you saw them play in person.

I am not that old. Just started watching at an early age. Oh, the joys of cable.
Mostly directed at SSS. I never had cable growing up. I got into basketball with the championship Bulls. I was around 12ish and that is when I started paying attention to sports.

That is ironic. About the same age (according to our timeline) F***tard started paying attention to Craig Biggio.
