Selig, who still hasn’t declared if he’ll make an appearance when Bonds is on the number, has made it clear that pennant-race implications are most important. And the commissioner is right, with 1974 precedent in his favor. When the Atlanta Braves tried to rest Aaron in Cincinnati as he was ready to break Ruth’s record, commissioner Bowie Kuhn ordered Aaron into the lineup. He broke the record in Atlanta anyway. - F***tard
This is beyond idiotic.
F***tard rants and raves about Barry Bonds approaching the Aaron record. Nothing new there. Except for this stupid twist. After blathering about Bonds being a swollen ‘roided up animal, F***tard then lets out the zinger that the Giants sit Bonds while on the road to improve the odds of the record breaker occurring in San Francisco. Yeah, that is right. While bitching about Bonds breaking Aaron’s record, F***tard then cries out for Bonds to get more at bats. Despite the obvious marketing bonanza for the Giants to have this historical* feat* occur at San Fran, F***tard also conveniently ignores the fact that this guy is literally on his last leg and probably would not even be playing if not chasing Aaron’s record.
A F***tard.ed event opined by a F***tard. How classic.
Sounds like more typical Tinky tactics. Slam everything and everyone. Blah blah blah, Bonds is a ‘roided-up freak. Blah blah blah, Selig was complicit. Blah blah blah, I hate everybody. Blah blah blah, I am a mighty columnist and I alone dictate what should and should not be done in all professional sports.
FTF, because the Sun Times could use the space for something useful, like more horoscopes.
Giants loose 4 in a row and 6 of the last 10. Bonds goes 0 for 5 two games straight. Hitless in the last 6 games. Gone 23 at bats without a HR. He goes on to call himself an embarrassment while throwing laundry carts around the clubhouse yesterday. Tinky wants more of this? As much as I dislike Bonds, I believe he actually needs to sit a game or two to get his shit straight. Then come back break the record* and leave baseball forever.
I really don’t want to see him do it over the next 4 games at Wrigley anyway.
How can you tell him he has to paly? He is a broken down old man who needs days off every now and then. You cant mandate that he has to play everyday. If he needs a day off, give him a day off. I am not encouraging him to sit for an entire series, but if he needs a day off because of his knees then give ti to him.
To put a fresh spin on things ... what parallels do you see between Bonds and Mariotti. There are a couple of them listed in the post.
1. Both have swollen heads.
2. Neither has been on a truly championship team.
3. Both avoid the truth like it was Ebola (no offense to Ebola).
4. Neither is worth a damn.
Personally, I’ve been sick of talking about Bonds for a couple of years, I sense that some of you feel the same.

Overinflated heads: check.
Despised by colleagues and many in the general public: check.
Horrible shows on ESPN: check.
Won awards that no one cares about: check.
Only appreciated in San Francisco: well....not really.
The sad thing about Bonds is he was on track to the Hall of Fame well before all the steroids suspicion. Honestly, I think he still deserves to get voted in on the first ballot he’s eligible.
The only similarity between Barry Bonds and the BPLP is that they are both pompous douchebags that revel in the hatred that their horrible personalities create. That’s it. Bonds was a Hall of Famer before he took performance enhancing drugs. He let his ego get the best of him and now his every achievement is tarnished. On the other hand, the BPLP has never done anything of substance, and any success he’s achieved has been through stir-the-pot antics and look-at-me windsockery. The BPLP only exemplifies Bonds’ worst character traits, and the saddest part is his ego is completely without justification.
Is there any rational baseball fan who didn’t come to that conclusion two years ago?
Many of us came to that conclusion 6+ years ago. Unfortunately, one of them wasn’t Mariotti, who not only didn’t come to that conclusion but attacked those who (correctly) did.
I still like home runs, knowing they energize a sport that too often slips into comas. Better still, I like sluggers who don’t use steroids and supplements to bulk up like chemically bloated space aliens. Any innuendo about Bonds should stop. One of the most outspoken anti-steroids critics in the game is Kevin Towers, general manager of the San Diego Padres. He has a good idea of who is using and who isn’t.
“Believe me, Barry is au naturel,” Towers said. “He is a wonderful athlete blessed with God-given ability. He’s hitting more home runs than he did five and six years ago because the pitching isn’t as good and parks are smaller. What he’s doing is very real and very special.”
