I have been wanting to rip on Slezak for a while, but other stuff that was more important kept coming up. Today, nothing stood in my way. Have fun!

The Cubs have been the biggest disappointment in baseball?  team picture but I would say the Mets are giving them a nice run for their money.  Excellent post Bill.  There are a couple of radio guys that work out here that every time a guy would call up and demand a manager be fired, they needed to suggest one to replace them.  Its a good practice.  Lou is in the inevitable position of a manager with a disfunctional team around him.  I am pretty sure he wasnt the one that offered up big money to the mintal midget twins.  I am pretty sure Lou didnt want to get rid of De Rosa either.  I think its safe to say that Lou has a track record and should be given the benefit of the doubt.  The Cubs won the division in back to back years for the first time in 100 years and people want him gone.  Laughable.  Hendry on the other hand, seems to be the problem in my eyes.

Nice post Bill.

I think when a manager takes a regular loser like the Cubs to two straight postseason appearances, even if they both end with 3 straight losses in the opening series, then all of a sudden the team struggles to play .500, the problem is not with the manager.  I think it is a case of too much crazy on one team.  And getting rid of DeRosa was a bonehead move.

Never was a fan of getting rid of DeRosa.  I never understood why you would get rid of the one player that actually preformed in the playoffs for a guy that hasnt been in the playoffs.......ever?  Not sure about the ever part, but I can promise you he doesnt have the track record that DeRosa does.

A manager is only as good as his talent. Apparently the Cubs are lacking in that department.

Great pot (he he) Bill.

I was hoping some one would rip into her, could not get past the first paragraph.

Reminded me of the bad old days.

Glad you folks liked it. Just because I am a Sox fan doesn’t mean I am a moron. There is a lot wrong with the Cubs that Lou has absolutely nothing to do with. He didn’t injure the players, he didn’t forget how to hit, he isn’t watching balls drop by his feet .... There is no way in hell you could convince me that a managerial change would fix all those problems.

While I agree that it isn’t all Lou’s fault I wouldn’t underestimate what a coaching change could do. Just look at what happened to the Rockies after they axed Hurdle in favor of Jim Tracy. That team was on pace for losing over 100 games and now they are absolutely on fire. If a manager gets credit for all the good things that happen, hitting and pitching, he should also shoulder some of the blame when things go badly.

I’m not sure firing the manager is the fix either. Then again

It’s interesting that the 3 guys who ranked worst all have teams that love them. Of course, all 3 (Ozzie, Lou & Tony) are notorious for not putting up with F***tard.s, so that may be a factor.

seriously, and now?  Lou doesnt hit for millions of dollars, pitch for a multi-year contract.  throw balls into the stands in the middle of an inning.  players play, managers manage.

the cubs problems are execution and not strategy, line up or development.

scales, that is however a realized error within the management and i assume Lou had a hand in it…

but its been said that when you fire you hitting coach you will go through a bad 2 to 4 weeks afterwards. they fired hitting coach Gerald Perry around 6/14.  the cubs are going to flatline for a while.

no, getting rid of Lou is standard simpleton b.s., reaching for the nearest thing in the dark.

anyway read this:  http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4290259

“Piniella admits he tried marijuana” now come on.... come on… fire a doobie bro?  plus i think i heard that he was voted favorite manager amongst the players…
