Was born in West Lafayette, Indiana while my dad was teaching chemistry at Purdue and where he got his Ph.D in chemistry in 1953. We had moved to Louisiana in 1946 but he returned to earn his Ph.D in chemistry. Joined the Army in 1962 and had basic training at Fort Polk, LA. Went to postal school at Adjutant General School in Indianapolis, Indiana in January of 1963. In May of 1963 was given orders to go to Hawaii and stayed there until January of 1966 when sent to Vietnam. My tour of duty was up in May of 1966 and returned to Louisiana. If I had 3 months of service left would have not had even gone to Vietnam but had four months so spent the final four months in Vietnam. Went to work for Alexandria Daily Town Talk in August of 1966 and worked there till April of 1974 when we moved to Monroe, Louisiana to work for Monroe Morning World till March of 1976 and returned to Town Talk and worked till November 1st of 2004. In March of 2005 went to work for a caregiving company working with mentally challenged for a total of 17 months before retiring. We moved to Tennessee when my daughter and family said they were moving to Tennessee for a job but after three weeks they were back in Louisiana. Am really going to miss not getting to play baseball with my 8 year old grandson. I took him to every practice and game last year and now will be lucky to even see one game. Matthew loves baseball and loved to practice with me. When he is on the field he is always smiling. You can tell he enjoys every minute of being on the field. Will never forget the major league play he made last year when he we he dived for a ball then got up and threw the runner out at first. I am retired after working 38 years in newspaper production for Alexandria Daily Town Talk in Alexandria, LA and the Monroe Morning World in Monroe, LA. |
